Robyn murphy

Robyn Murphy is the managing partner of JRM Consultancy. She established this business after a decades-long career as a television host, reporter, and anchor, working for NBC and ABC affiliate stations, and for Black Entertainment  Television, among others. Robyn has been a trailblazer throughout her career, holding to her name many firsts: the first woman to serve as a sideline reporter covering professional sports for Comcast Sports Net; the first female sports reporter at WGAL (NBC) in Pennsylvania; the first woman to pen a sports column for the Baltimore Afro-American Newspaper. In the world of journalism, Robyn established herself as one of America’s brightest personalities on the topics of sports-culture and the intersection of race, politics, and sports and has served as a correspondent for BET sports and election coverage, and moderator of nationally televised politics and social justice panels for the network.

Robyn has written award-winning features and essays for national publications, including a groundbreaking series in Vibe magazine which explored sexual assaut in professional sports using the Kobe Bryant rape trial as a catalyst for conversation with high profile athletes, and a powerful Newsweek magazine piece on Raising Black Boys, which won the National Association of Black Journalists Excellence in Print Award. Robyn’s essays have been reprinted in college textbooks as a standard for English literature and essay writing.   She moderated a nationally televised panel of sports wives in collaboration with Giant magazine and TV One, which became the forebearer to the Basketball Wives reality television series.

After becoming a mother, Robyn stepped away from newsroom work and  became a full-time freelancer. She is a panelist on the long-running political debate television show, Square Off with Richard Sher, and makes appearances nationally on Fox News, MSNBC and others. In 2008, she established JRM Consultancy,  focusing on Public Relations, Strategic Communications and Institutional Diversity.

The Baltimore Business Journal recognized Robyn as a 2020 Leader in Diversity, and she was appointed to the 2020-21 transition team for Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott where she co-chairs the vendor equity subcommittee of the Governance Structure committee.
